近日,韩国三星重工(SHI)获得2艘超大型液化气体运输船(VLGC)建造订单,总价值约1.9亿美元(2707亿韩元),计划于2025年底交付。截止目前,三星重工已接获339艘新船订单,价值74亿美元,正在按计划完成其88亿美元的年度订单目标。在航运业日益严格的环保法规推动下,三星重工在船舶设计领域积极探索,研发替代燃料动力船舶,如液氨、液氢运输船和液化二氧化碳(LCO2)运输船等,其20,000立方米液氢运输船和氨燃料预留VLGC船设计已获得船级社批准,适用于LNG动力船舶的船载二氧化碳捕获、储存技术也在今年年初取得了原则性认证。
Recently, South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has won an order for the construction of two very large gas carriers (VLGCs) worth approximately $190 million (KRW 270.7 billion). The two gas carriers are slated for delivery by the end of 2025. SHI is on track of meeting its yearly orderbook target of $8.8 billion, having secured orders for 339 ships this year, worth $7.4 billion, Yonhap reports. Prompted by the ever-stricter environmental regulations in the maritime industry, Samsung has been active on numerous fronts with respect to exploring vessel designs including ships running on alternative fuels, such as ammonia, hydrogen carriers and liquified carbon dioxide carriers (LCO2). It was reported that the shipyard has obtained the design approval of 20000 cubic meters of liquefied hydrogen carrier and ammonia ready VLGC, and announced the approval of its proposed carbon capture and storage principle for LNG ships at the beginning of this year.

The cruise company Royal Caribbean Group will open a zero energy cruise terminal worth 125 million dollars in Galveston Port, Texas, USA on November 9, 2022. The terminal claims to be the first cruise terminal in the world to generate 100% of the required energy through on-site solar panels, and will use 30000 square feet of on-site photovoltaic solar panels. The Galveston cruise terminal will help significantly extend the company’s presence in the port, in addition to growing the cruise line’s annual accommodation capacity to up to 630,000 guests. To reduce transport related carbon emissions, the terminal will provide bicycle facilities and charging stations for guests and employees.

The green transition of the shipping industry is picking up pace with shipowners starting to invest in vessels that are technologically prepared to burn alternative fuels such as ammonia and hydrogen. There are now over 320 “LNG ready” ships in the fleet and 99 on the orderbook, while there are 130 “ammonia ready” and 6 “hydrogen ready” vessels on order. Energy-saving technologies (ESTs) have been fitted on over 5,550 ships, accounting for 24.5% of fleet tonnage: this includes propeller ducts, Flettner rotors, air lubrication systems and others. BWMS retrofit programme ongoing: majority of fleet tonnage (70.6%) now BWMS-fitted. Huge investment at ports is needed: only 171 ports (out of ~6,000) have shore side power, while over 1,700 vessels are fitted/set to be fitted with shore power connections.

中远海运散运旗下的40万吨级超大型矿砂船“远津海”号于近日满载顺利乘潮通过渤海中部新航线,并安全靠泊唐山港曹妃甸港区矿石码头。“远津海”号此次装载了39.03万吨矿砂,刷新了靠泊该港的超大型干散货船最大货运量、最大吃水、最大载重吨的三项记录。为确保船舶安全满载进出,中远海运联合当地港口、海事局、引航站,对水文气象、引航靠泊、通航管制等方面进行充分考察,最终打通了渤海超大型船舶航行的新通道。
On 22 September, a vessel named “MV YUAN JIN HAI” operated by COSCO SHIPPING Bulk, reportedly sailed via a new channel in the Bohai Sea (central zone) with a complete load and then safely berthed in Caofeidian Port Area’s No. 5 Ore Terminal in Tangshan Port. MV YUAN JIN HAI, loaded with about 390,200 tons of iron ore, broke three records of highest cargo volume, draft, and deadweight tonnage for super-large dry bulk carriers reportedly berthing at the port. To empower vessels to exit and safely enter Bohai Bay with a 100% load, COSCO SHIPPING Bulk investigated the hydro-meteorological conditions, pilotage berthing, and navigation control associated with the port, local maritime bureau, and pilot stations, eventually identifying the new route.
